History and sports and baths, oh my!!

This was an active weekend around here. We started off Saturday morning with another fun walk around our woods with Sequoia in her little papoose. She really enjoys the ride and the fresh air seems to feel refreshing to her. I like watching her move her face to feel the sun or wind..sort of like a little drunk person, but still cute. After our walk we headed down to Yorktown to have ice cream with our friends Becky and Jeremiah. The warm sunny morning had turned a bit over cast, cool and drizzly by the time we got there, but we still enjoyed our Ben and Jerry's. We then strolled around the waterfront and some of the historic town before heading home. It was the first time that Jeremiah had actually gotten to see and hold Sequoia since his visits to the hospital tended to coincide with things like the cesarean.... like most people the first time they hold an infant, he was terrified that he would somehow hurt her or make her cry, but she settled right in and was as happy as could be in his (tense and nervous) arms.

Later that night we (Sequoia and I) grabbed a seat on our couch to watch the semi finals of the Final Four college basketball championships. The games did not go as we had hoped, but we enjoyed our time together.

The thrill of victory? The agony of defeat? More like another milk coma coming on.....

Sunday was highlighted by Sequoia's first real bath. Up until now she has been getting the handi-wipe sponge baths, but today we broke out the baby soap and baby shampoo and baby wash cloths and baby towels ... read the book one more time to make certain we got the water temperature right ... I did mention this is all really new to us, didn't I?

Anyway. we got all of the bath supplies together and had a long discussion about whether or not she needed a 3 mil wet suit or possibly just a surf shirt and shorts. We could not find her snorkel or fins and were beginning to think that the whole bath excursion would be a flop ... until somebody reminded us that it was just a bath and not a dive expedition ... I was fooled by all of the gear and am certain that I have left on extended hikes with less in my pack.

Well our little girl did great with her bath and did not complain one bit about the fact that we were not terribly polished in the mechanics of the whole event. There were moments when she was obviously really enjoying herself.

By the way, check out her new belly button ... she's growing up.

Here is some of her unbridled joy coming through. She thought it was quite funny that mommy wanted to wash her hair.

She is ridiculously expressive some times and I just love watching the expressions she comes up with. Again, I know that these are reflexive ... but the girl definitely has a light on.

So after getting dried off from her bath and dressed in her little puddle duck jumper, she was ready to catch some shut eye on dad's chest again. She loves to wedge her face under my chin and just sleep for hours. I think she deserved it after such a big and eventful weekend.

I am enjoying this blog and the photos. You all look so happy and relaxed... or is that sleep deprivation? Colleen and Sequoia in the garden with the tulips are my desktop photo right now. It is a beautiful photo.
Sounds like things are going great!!
