Saturday we drove out to Yachats on the coast so that we could attend our friend Becky's 50th birthday party. Colleen and I were married in Yachats and Becky performed the ceremony for us. It was an incredibly special thing having one of our best friends playing that role for us.

Becky's husband Larry had organized a surprise pool party for her, and we were lucky to have a spectacularly non-typical day for the party - it was sunny and 60 degrees out. Even with the unseasonably warm weather we were all glad the pool was indoors and heated.

We had a lot of fun getting to introduce Sequoia to all of our friends - especially Becky.

The pool house was decorated with tropical themes and the guests were decorated with tropical drinks and with out exception everyone had a great time.

As the sun set, most people moved down to the beach where we had a roaring bonfire. Beach bonfires are one of the best things about living on the coast out there and something that Colleen and I sorely miss these days.

It was fun introducing Sequoia to the art of sitting around a campfire telling stories and staring hypnotically at the flames.

I've been waiting to see a photo of you three with Becky, the gal who tied the knot for you back in 2003....she must have been thrilled to see our sweet babe, and she does look pretty happy.
I remember how much you used to enjoy the bonfires out there on the coast....it's great that the weather allowed you all to have this fun together with friends, doing those things you always enjoyed so much.
Love the photos...all of them...and wasn't it great to have such unusually good weather while you were there?
Speak of luck...you certainly had your share (except for the lost luggage!).

WOW!! Was I ever surprised!! What a joy to see Leo, Colleen and Sequoia. I had just said a few days earlier that I was missing them and wished I could see them. Wishes do come true!!
I was really really surprised by the whole event. The 3 of them are one of the nicest gifts I have ever received. Thank YOU Vern. I was sorry to have to "return" them so quickly. Especially since they worked so well, were in mint condition and fit so nicely. We had so much fun, the pool party was great (some likened it to the pool scenes in the movie Coccoon!) Larry out did himself as well as all of my friends and family. How they were all able to keep this big secret really mystifies me. But I am glad they pulled it off. It was one of the best days of my life!
Thank you again for making the trek to Oregon!!
I love you,
Becky
