Axel graduated to solid food tonight ... solid being a very relative term and in this case only applies to things being compared to milk.
It is a landmark moment that changes the dynamic of meal times as well as the challenges of feeding him. No longer is it the absent minded shoving of a bottle in his face while doing other things with your free hand like folding laundry or cooking dinner.
Now meal times mean a full out campaign involving food prep, patience and a garden hose.
For the record he took to it very well and ate quite a bit of his delicious rice cereal mush.
Today was also his 4 month check up where he got some more of his shots and an overall check up.
He is doing very well and is growing at an excellent rate. He is now 26" long/ tall, depending on how you look at it. That puts him solidly in the 90th percentile.
He has filled out to a strong 15 pounds and 4 ounces. That places him in the 75th percentile, which is up from his previous 50th percentile in this category at his last appointment.
Some of you may look at these pictures and latch on to a very noticeable red tint to his hair, which I cannot deny, however just for the record, in person it looks very, very blond and only appears red in certain light and certain photographs.
Another huge milestone happened yesterday when Axel showed us that he knows how to roll over. He can now effortlessly flip on over to his belly and he tries so hard to crawl.
Right now it appears that he will utilize the traditional straight forward approach to crawling that most normal people use as babies. I only mention this because as an infant I crawled sideways like a crab.
He is able to make some forward progress while attempting to crawl, but so far his belly is just to much for him to get air born. I anticipate that he will sort that in short order and be crawling by this time next week.
Not quite as major of a milestone, but still fun to watch has been the discovery of his feet...that is Axel discovered his feet. Colleen and I have known they were there all along.
Anyway, the point is that Axel is growing up big and strong and healthy. What more could we ask for?
