Grant's birthday party

Yesterday marked the start of a parade of March birthdays. Sequoia's buddy Grant had his big first birthday party.

Grant is the friend that Sequoia has known the longest ... since approximately 8 months before she was born.

Sequoia's group of friends is pretty large and includes a number of slightly older kids who have recently had their first birthdays - like Brooklyn and Connor - but this was the first time she has actually been able to attend a birthday party.

There are 5 or 6 kids in her playgroup that were born last March and I think it is really neat to be in a position to watch them all growing up together.

It is unfortunate that Sequoia can not attend all of their parties due to her parent's busy schedules. You would think that we could somehow re-prioritize our lives for such stuff, but that is not always possible.

Colleen has been having fun planning Sequoia's first birthday party. I keep telling her that this is really a celebration for us - to mark that we managed to stumble our way through the first year relatively unscathed, but looking at the decorations and invitations I think that she is taking a different approach.

I think that it is an appropriate gesture to take a moment to thank all of our friends and family members (near and far) who have taken it upon themselves to help us realize what a wonderful experience this is. We absolutely could not be the parents that Sequoia deserves without all of your support. We like to pretend that we are GREAT parents, but we realize that we are just a small part of the community that is raising our little girl.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for surrounding Sequoia with so much love during her first year.

This party had to have been a "ball" for the parents as well as for the kids -- especially Big Boy Grant! This is a huge Step in Growing UP...the First Birthday just is in a realm all its own.

We are anxious for Sequoia's Big Day to arrive, and we hope to be there to help celebrate!

love you guys, Grandmom and Granddad
