So as August left us, a Hurricane named Irene came up the coast and provided us with quite an adventure. At the height of the storm several large 120 foot tall Poplar trees came crashing down. One hit our neighbor's house doing tremendous damage. The other was stopped just short of crushing our little home - caught and precariously suspended over our roof by another large tree. It was bad enough that we had to evacuate the house immediately and were not able to return for four weeks.
We were very fortunate that nobody was injured and our house escaped any serious damage, but the 4 weeks spent camping out like refugees in strangers basements was surprisingly exhausting and stressful. I need to add to that..it was also very rewarding. The stressful and exhausting parts are self explanatory, but the rewarding parts were more subtle.
The entire event opened our eyes to how very supportive our neighbors are when people are in need. We received tons of help plus a place to stay. The experience was refreshing in that sense. It was also good to see how well Sequoia adapted to such dramatic changes. She was displaced from both her house as well as her daycare, as she attends daycare at the house next door that took a direct hit from a tree. She never missed a beat through it all.
So we finally got back in to the house, but it quite honestly took us a few months to get back in to feeling like we were fully moved back in.
So hopefully now I can catch up on what has been going on since September.
