There are a few things that can be assumed about me as a parent. For example I am going to introduce my daughter to a few of the more important things in life such as hiking, camping, the beach, the mountains, kayaking, lacrosse and of course sailing.
There is a much longer list of things that can be assumed about me as a parent, but since this is my blog, I choose to focus on the good things....

To get prepared Sequoia tried on her new "Daddy's First Mate" outfit, as you can see in this classic self portrait of us. Sequoia is learning early that there is an outfit for every occasion. Something that I am hoping she outgrows by the time she is two.
Wednesday Colleen brought Sequoia down to the yard to meet Todd Thompson and his daughter Anne who make up half of the family crew that is setting off on board their boat Elcano for Norway this weekend. That is only the first leg of an extraordinary voyage. They are an amazing family and it has been an exceptional experience getting to know them over the past two years while we helped prepare their boat for this trip. We wish them all a safe passage and hope that our paths will cross again.
I am glad that Sequoia got to meet them and I can only hope that some of their adventurer's spirit may have rubbed off on her. They actually brought her a package of Giant Sequoia seeds. I think that is one of the groovier gifts she's received so far. Sequoia checked out the boat from stem to stern and fully approved. She even scratched the back stay for luck while they weren't looking.

Granddad and Grandmom are already faithful followers of the Elcano Blog and will continue to check it out with Sequoia and her mom & dad. Very interesting, indeed! We can be armchair adverturers this way, What Fun, eh?
Love you guys, Leo, Colleen and Baby Seuoia! Wish we could see you more often!
