Today Sequoia had her two week check up. The focus of this check up is to see that she has gained enough weight to be back at her original birth weight. As we suspected, our little girl's appetite has been doing the trick. She weighed in at exactly her birth weight of 8 pounds and 5 ounces. She is looking a bit svelte as well in preparation for the summer swim suit season as she is carrying that weight on a frame that is 2 whole inches longer. That's right - she is a long and leggy 22 inches these days. Her grandfather Murphy figured out that at this rate she will be about 6 feet tall by her first birthday. Her head has also grown from a birth circumference of 13 and 3/4 inches to 14 and 1/3 inches. She might actually live up to her name sake - the towering giant sequoia's of the Northwest.Colleen tells me that Sequoia is NOT a fan of the doctors office. Evidently she puts up quite a fuss as soon as they strip her down and doesn't let up until well after the doctor allows her to get dressed again. Colleen points out that Sequoia will probably feel pretty foolish about complaining about this visit after she gets done with the next one since in two weeks she is due to get her first round of shots. From what I hear, those first shots can leave an impression on them.
Anyway, I am very proud of how well my girls are doing with the breast feeding. It is a demanding schedule for Colleen to keep up with, but she has been unbelievably patient with the many idiosyncrasies of Sequoia's eating patterns. As with many aspects of this adventure, I had quite a few misconceptions about how this feeding thing worked. Foolish me I thought that it would be the no-brainer part of parenthood. After taking some classes and reading some books it began to sound like it was a miracle any time a mother was able to breastfeed and perhaps we were biting off more than we could chew (no pun intended). As it turns out, it really is not rocket science, but it does require some persistence and all of the education and advice really has helped.
Well we are very happy to hear that the doctors continue to say that Sequoia is the picture of perfect health. That is the highlight of my week ... for now.*****The Teddy bear was a gift from Troy, Rebecca and Ava, given to Sequoia in the hospital.

Great going with the weight gain and added inches! She's a beauty and also, obviously, a good eater!
