With all of the fun stuff going on during the past two months (like Christmas and flying to Oregon) I have been a bit slack about keeping track of some of Sequoia's big milestones. Well they are big milestones in this house anyway....She turned 9 months old on Christmas day and had her 9-month check up shortly thereafter.
Her nine month stats were
Weight - 18 pounds ( top 50%)
Length - 28 inches ( top 75%)
Head circumference - 18 1/4 inches ( top 95%)
Now if you sort of sketch out a baby using those proportions you get a top heavy little kid....I think they measured wrong since I think her head is perfectly sized for her body ... but then again I am no doctor...
She is loving the fact that she now has two teeth and happily tears into whatever foods Colleen and I give her. She loves fruit and crackers, cheerios and various veggies .... and of course, banana pancakes. This phase of eating has endeared her to her dogs....since they also like crackers and banana pancakes and are not very particular about where they find them.
She is getting more and more coordinated every day. She has learned to clap when she is happy or when she is listening to music. She has a lot of natural rhythm and loves to bounce and dance to music - it is really pretty cute. The other day when I was playing guitar for her she climbed up on a suitcase that was laying on its side and proceeded to clap and tap her foot to the music - laughing the whole time. The other thing she does when I play guitar is to go find her own instruments - like her tambourine, bells or piano so that she can play along....and she almost always sings with us.
She is thriving with all of the socializing she gets to do with her friends in the mommy's network. Colleen spends a lot of time making sure that Sequoia gets plenty of play time with her crew. As an offshoot of this socializing, Sequoia has recently learned how to wave to people. I think she started this in the Portland airport during our flight out from Oregon, but now she has perfected it in to a very adult-like wave with variations depending on her mood. The other night when I came home from work Colleen had Sequoia sitting on the front porch to meet me and as soon as she saw me she started laughing, clapping and waving to me. It was adorable. What a perfect way to be welcomed home.
Last night we went to Brooklyn's house for a Gloucester Mommy's Baby Play Group Super Bowl Party. Lot's of Sequoia's friends were there including Elizabeth, who is already walking. I do not think Sequoia will be far behind. I don't often get to see all of these kids interacting with each other and it is amazing how they get along - the way they stagger and crawl around, babbling incoherently it is like watching a funny little village of small drunk people ... not really ... but sort of.

After a false start, looks like I'll be able to leave a comment, aftr all.
As usual, Granddad & I really enjoyed finding out all sorts of statistics about our precious little Grand-Baby, soon to be Grand-Toddler! She is so cute and cuddly.....wish we could see her more often.
Love the way she tears into those pancakes & other goodies. And it's so cute to think of her waving and clapping...and laughing and singing....she's a WINNER, for sure!
Keep up the good parenting, Leo & Colleen, you are doing a magnificent job!
Love you guys!
