When we left my parents Sunday night we were looking for a little time to just to relax and enjoy ourselves at a slower pace after the hectic (albeit fun) pace of the previous week. Our goal was to find a beach to ring in the New Year (or at least my birthday on the 30th). It is a sort of tradition for Colleen and I to spend a few days at the end of the year at the beach ... and I am all for keeping certain traditions alive.

Well our first stop along the way was Chincoteague where we thought we might find a quiet sleepy town this time of year. Well it was quiet - there is no arguing that - but unfortunately they have a no-dogs policy at the sea-shore and no matter how we cut it we had at least two dogs traveling with us.

So after pondering our next move for a few seconds we decided to head down to the Outer Banks and our favorite place to ring in the New Year, or at least say good bye to, and reflect about, the old year.

The weather was stunning - close to 70 and the beaches were basically empty. We enjoyed the scenery and several walks along the beaches (with our dogs of course) and generally had a great time.

We saw a large school of dolphins close to shore, apparently in a bit of a feeding frenzy as they were regularly jumping and splashing. I guess they could have been just playing, but I think they were feeding.

This was Sequoia's first beach trip and among other things, she decided she likes the taste of sand ... moist sand that is, not the dry stuff so much.

She thought it was very funny watching her dogs run and play in the small surf. It won't be long before they are chasing her in and out of the waves.

It was a nice and relaxing way to end a week of marathon visiting and driving.

As we were leaving the island we saw this flock of Canada geese circling in for a landing. Always a wonderful sight.

At last, more pictures on the blog! I've been checking every day even though I didn't really expect any thing to show up while you were so busy and having fun and all that!
Wonderful photos! Beatiful child, of course, and great little family, for sure.
We love you guys, Grandmom and Granddad
